Hot Tub Running Costs UK
Hydropool hot tubs are engineered to be the most energy efficient in the world.
With energy prices rising across the world, many people are understandably cautious about investing in a hot tub as they expect it to be a significant financial drain.
However, while Hydropool does not promise to be the cheapest hot tub to buy outright, you can be sure that you are investing in a spa that will provide you with a top-quality wellness experience that is much more inexpensive to run and built to last.
So let’s answer the question – how much does it cost to run a hot tub?
To treat this fairly, we will use some unbiased third-party data from WhatSpa.
How Much Does It Cost to Run a Hot Tub?
There are many factors that affect the cost of running a hot tub. Some examples are:
- The heater
- The pumps and electrical components
- Water volume
- Water temperature
- Jet power settings
- Use frequency
- Cabinet insulation
- Cover insulation
- Geographical location
- Exposure to harsh weather
- How often the water is drained, refilled, and reheated
- Regularity of servicing
Unfortunately, there can be no definitive answer to this question, but we will do our best to give you an idea according to unbiased WhatSpa data, updated in April 2022.
Hot Tub Running Costs
WhatSpa says that on a tariff of 28p per kWh, most energy-efficient hot tubs on the market will cost between £1 and £1.30 per day – much less than a daily coffee from Costa or Starbucks!
They note that not all hot tubs are manufactured to the highest energy efficient standards, so what might look like a great deal at the time of purchasing, you may end up multiplying your daily costs by 5 or 6.
To be transparent with our customers, we say that you should consider that your hot tub running costs are likely to be on the higher end of that range, with them increasing further if you use the spa frequently.
You will notice that we have quoted the figure for energy-efficient spas. As we like to harp on about our hot tubs being some of the most energy efficient in the world (blah blah), we should probably justify this claim by telling you exactly HOW this is the case!
Hydropool Built for Energy Efficiency
Originally designed for the Canadian market, Hydropool spas had to be able to withstand harsh Canadian winters that often reach below -20 degrees C, while remaining enjoyable, and indeed viable, to use during these months.
Over 40 years of research and development have led to Hydropool to setting the standards for hot tub and swim spa innovation, resulting in being awarded the most certifications and honours in the entire industry. They were also the first hot tub and swim spa manufacturer to be approved by the California Energy Commission (CEC), who create some of the strictest regulations in the world.
While Hydropool has expanded to over 60 countries worldwide, they remain focused on innovating to maximise energy efficiency in Canada due to the numerous resulting benefits for all stakeholders worldwide.
In Canada, they remain an industry leader that aims to reduce their Canadian customers’ energy bills. Meanwhile, the rest of the world benefits from hot tubs and swim spas that are continuously put to the test in extreme conditions.
British Climate? No Sweat
In the UK, our winter months rarely drop below freezing, meaning there is far less strain put on the technology to keep the hot tub up to temperature. As you will have your hot tub in Plymouth, or another area in Devon, it will be even less prone to mechanical failure!
It would be easy for us to suggest switching off your hot tub for the winter to save on your energy bills, but the extensive scientific research behind Hydropool’s patented technologies allows us to recommend that you keep your spa running throughout these months to enjoy life-changing wellness benefits year-round. Getting a Hydropool spa up to temperature requires much more energy than keeping it at the desired temperature.
Besides, hot tubs aren’t just made for summer. Just like being in your warm home enjoying the view of a cold winter’s day, there is something beautiful about being submerged in your personal warm spa, drifting off to a relaxing massage while listening to the often-unheard soundtrack of winter’s nature.
HydroWise Thermal Technology
There are 6 key elements of Hydropool spas that allow us to make such seemingly outrageous claims about the long-term value of your Hydropool spa investment.
You will be able to find more information in our brochure and Hydroguide.
Hydrowise Heat Shield Hardcover
This heavy-duty safety hardcover contains an insulated baffle in the fold area, locking the heat in and cold out.
Insulated Thermal Shield Blanket – NASA-inspired Technology
Triple thermal shield technology uses aluminium foil to reflect heat back into the hot tub, as well as black backing and pipes designed to maximise heat absorption.
This very same technology is used by NASA to protect its astronauts from the -270 degrees conditions of outer space.
Many hot tub brands use thin acrylic, then pack it in with a mound of cheap foam in their weak attempts to insulate their spas. The experts at Fixabolt advise that as well as the inferior heat retention of this method, it also makes maintenance and repairs more difficult due to the limited access to mechanical parts, therefore significantly increasing your repair costs.
Ideally, you don’t want to be paying someone to spend their time navigating their way through a heap of foam (and having to replace it)!
Low Amperage Evergreen Pump – High Flow, Low Energy Pumps
Our pumps are engineered to produce high flow rates with low energy output, resulting in filtration that is 26%-31% more efficient than the competition.
Eco-Heat Exchange Technology – Fully Adjustable Venting
Each pump creates 1.5 kW of waste heat. On most hot tubs the majority of this would be lost, but our triple thermal shield blanket reflects that heat back into our hot tub cavity. HydroWise thermal vents maximise energy efficiency for any season and any climate.
Programmable Controls
Select your desired water temperature and your hot tub will automatically maintain this setting while conserving as much energy as possible. Keeping the water at a consistent temperature uses less energy than reheating from cold.
Designed To Exceed Standards
Hydropool hot tubs are ranked at the top for stand-by wattage and energy efficiency.
Hydropool Longevity
Hydropool spas are built to last. That’s why we are confident enough to offer an industry-leading 10-year guarantee.
This fits quite nicely with our longest payment plan available, also 10 years, meaning that even at the end of the longest possible repayment period you can still have peace of mind that your hot tub is under warranty.
Owning a Hydropool spa means you don’t have to worry about replacing it for a long while.
There is no upgrade for our customisable hydrotherapy treatments, no way to further improve your energy efficiency, and no chance of replacing the World’s Only Fully Self Cleaning Hot tub.
